Mission: To focus on raising awareness of critical issues for children with disabilities through the development/modification of legislation to improve funding for direct services, improve service continuum for youth transitioning to adulthood and establishing a comprehensive system of care.
Issues:
· Support efforts to fully fund Early Steps to screen all children birth to 3 for developmental delays.
· Reduce and/or eliminate the Developmental Disabilities Home and Community Based Services (DD/HCBS) Waiver Waitlist. Broward currently has over 1,000 children and youth with disabilities (birth-22) on the Waiver list.
· Advocate for a comprehensive system of care for children and youth with disabilities.
· Ensure that young adults with disabilities transitioning to adulthood have appropriate support and services.
· Increase training and integrated employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities.
· Support the Transportation Disadvantage Program, which provides dependable and affordable transportation options for persons with disabilities.
· Provide adequate and appropriate staffing ratios for medically fragile children.
