Mission:

The mission of the Legislative Advisory Teen Council of Broward Days is to serve as a voice on issues of concern to youth.  Through our efforts we will create a statewide council that will study, monitor, and propose legislation to contribute to policy which will foster the education, leadership development, health, and safety of Florida’s youth.  Priority will be placed on promoting our service and participation in state and local governments.  Ultimately, we will work to ensure the quality and overall well being of Floridians for today and future generations.

Issues:

Design a first of its kind Fitness and Nature Appreciation Trail at Riverglades Elementary school blending the importance of physical fitness and environmental awareness. The Legislative Advisory Teen Council will work with committee members Belinda Keiser, Roy Rogers, Riverglades Elementary School Principal Shelly Isenberg, and Celeste Crosse to develop the trail at the historic Doris Davis Forman Wilderness Preserve. The trail will emphasize Governor Crist’s priority of physical education, assist with the implementation of the 2007 P. E. bill mandate and serve as a prototype for future construction.

Continue advocacy of Governor Crist’s physical fitness and obesity prevention initiatives.

Continue significant progress made in developing statewide Legislative Advisory Teen Council to provide teens the ability to affect policy formation, advocate on behalf of the Governor’s and State Legislature’s key policy initiatives and encourage greater teen involvement in the political process.
