Mission Statement

Our mission is to seek legislative solutions to providing the citizens and businesses of Broward
County and Florida with affordable and available insurance protections necessary to maintain
their legal and financial obligations. It is our intention to keep our fellow Broward Days
committees advised as to legislation that would help encourage the continued job creation and
business environment in Florida. Our team is continuing to focus on helping Broward County
expand its economic base. Insurance and financial planning is an integral part of every business.
Whether providing protection for the largest investment a person has ( i.e. their home ),
protection against damage from an accident, protection of assets, retirement and/or pension
planning, medical expenses, business continuation, or protection against damage to business
assets, insurance provides security for all businesses, families, and our community. Businesses
need to have the ability to offer affordable health insurance and retirement benefits to attract and
retain the best employees.

2012 Session Issues

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) fraud and other types of insurance fraud are threatening to cause
our entire system of automobile insurance to crash. We need to strengthen our defenses against
such offenses as well as define much harsher penalties to those who scheme to defraud our
citizens and our state. As a result of these fraudulent acts, insurance companies are being forced
to dramatically raise the rates to the point of unaffordability. In our county, they have begun to
underwrite in such a manner as to deny many of our citizens the ability to purchase insurance at
all, in the hopes of reducing the number of fraud claims being filed. We are also seeking to find
ways to broaden the availability of homeowners insurance, fire insurance, and commercial
property insurance. These coverage are the backbone of our real estate industry and without their
affordable availability, a real estate recovery for Broward County can not occur.
Our committee is dedicated to working with Industry specialist, consumers and our legislators to
seek solutions to all of these problems that will keep these types of important business and
family protections both available and affordable. Insurance availability and affordability are
important factors in keeping and attracting business and people to Broward County.
