Mission:

Broward County's cultural industries represent a vital and powerful economic engine, with 6,014 creative businesses employing 23,042 people.  (Dun and Bradstreet)  Even in the most challenging economic times, during the last five years arts-related businesses grew by 45% and the number of employees increased by 24%.  Investment in cultural organizations and activities stimulates tremendous financial and social return, with public dollars leveraging additional private support as well.  Creative industries can be a critical partner in the community recovery process, both economically and emotionally.

Issues:

    • Broward's creative economy sustains and creates jobs, expands tourism, develops strong and effective public/private partnerships and gives Florida the competitive edge to attract and keep key businesses.  Arts events and activities serve every aspect of our diverse population, offering creative and engaging programming to people of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities.

    • The top priority is for the State of Florida to begin to restore its investment in the Department of State grant line items for arts, cultural, historical and  humanities resources-- proven catalysts for economic diversification and development.

    • Identify a dedicated funding stream for arts and culture that may include designated categories from Remote Sales Transaction Taxes.

    • Further economic growth and job development would be encouraged by investing State funds in for cultural and historical capital projects and cultural endowment matches.

    • Maintain tax exemptions for non-profit organizations, including those in the cultural industries.

    • Protect and increase arts education opportunities for students.
