Children's Issues Team Opposes TABOR

Broward Days Children’s Issues Team Members:

At our most recent “on ground” meeting, we screened The Real Story Behind TABOR, which describes the deleterious impact of the so-called “Taxpayer Bill of Rights” on human services in Colorado.  For those who weren’t able to join us, it is available online at www.cbpp.org/taborvideo.htm.

Last week, a Florida version of TABOR was filed by Sen. Haridopolis.  SJR 2420 would propose a Constitutional Amendment to limit the growth of government to a restrictive formula.  Voter approval would be required to exceed the prescribed limit.  Thanks to the foresight of team members, the Children’s Issues Team voted to OPPOSE  efforts such as SJR 2420 (TABOR).

Because this is a proposed constitutional amendment, passage will require 24 votes in the Senate and 72 votes in the House.  If the measure does, in fact, obtain the required 3/5 vote, the language on page 10 will be placed on the 2010 general ballot.  A 60% super-majority will be needed for passage.
