How does Broward Days function in light of the Gift-Giving Law?

For the small percentage of Broward Days activity to which Chapter 2005-359, Laws of Florida refers, the Board of Directors has interpreted this to mean those subject to the law are permitted three options: 1. At any event, pay the established fair-market-value cost for the event per person; or 2. Pay the season's membership fee which entitles the member to every Broward Day event in Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee; or 3. Pursuant to the language of the Interim Lobbying Guidelines memo for the House and Senate (1/20/06), "pop in" and not partake of any food, beverage, or other personal benefit at the event. From time to time, those subject to the law may still individually be invited to speak at a function.

For those other elected/appointed officials, payment of the established fair-market-value cost ($75) is discretionary for each event.
