Broward County Commission
At the center of a metropolitan area of more than five million people, Broward County is an international crossroads of the world. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport continues to break records with passenger counts, while Port Everglades, a department of County government, is positioned to become the world's number one cruise port. Tourism, the mainstay of the County's economy, has a $5 billion impact annually.
There's more to Broward County than sunshine, beaches and bistros. Our business climate is as refreshing as our weather. Broward County is the hub for the InternetCoast, a cluster of businesses, educational institutions and organizations involved in e-commerce. The County is in the process of developing a Mega Transport Zone, linking the port and airport with rail lines and interstate highways to promote international trade.
Working to improve Broward County's quality of life, the Broward County Commission is spending approximately $540 million in voter-approved bonds to build new libraries, parks and preserve environmentally-sensitive land. In addition to investing $500 million to improve the infrastructure of unincorporated neighborhoods, the County Commission is proceeding with its adopted goal of creating a Sense of Place, a comprehensive urban redevelopment strategy to transform the County into one of the nation's most visually attractive counties.
In Broward County, our future is as bright as our sunshine.
